CONQUERING SPACE
We participated in an original and deliberately different project. We wanted to tackle this issue with three young people who have a provocative and courageous character but are very different from each other. We gathered with them in a stunning location, fully immersed in the present moment. We aimed to evade the persistent diversions that are a hallmark of our time, brought about by our constant focus on events occurring around the world. We have united to steer clear of the false impressions we often fall into when we believe we are doing our way, and to stress the importance of individual perspective and personal depiction of the world, to develop a common path that will be fully available to those who wish to discover it. All of us together, as a group, were trying to conquer the space that was offered to us, and that put us to the test, staging ourselves to confront a powerful, ancestral landscape.
Thus, we have reached an environment in which we can evoke the terms of every possible relationship with identity and bonds.
Here history becomes the present, space an image and the individual a glance.
In such a place, we can recognise ourselves. In terms of human relations, recognising each other also means speaking the same language, understanding each other at first glance, and easily comprehending what the other is saying: in other words, knowing the watchword.
This is how we - Damiano Andreotti, Paolo Mazzo and Alessio Romeo, photographers of proven experience and curiosity - were able to enter into dialogue with Marialucia Campanella, Anna Dolci and Giorgio Garzella to build together a project of exploration of the space that revealed itself to our eyes. On Mount Lagazuoi, in the heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Three projects, three visions, and three answers to our inner questions emerged.
As photographers, we enjoyed ourselves, bonded, and shared a common passion. Our visions intertwined with the guys’, creating a shared narrative. Our exchange of ideas resulted in a collective story that touches the heart and pleases the eyes.
