Workshop LAGAZUOI LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHIC MARATHON

Lagazuoi EXPO Dolomiti:
an exceptional workshop with Denis Curti
for the finishing of the Lagazuoi Photo Award


A closing event in style of the photo exhibition by Olivo Barbieri, winner of the Lagazuoi Photo Award, the first curatorial project of the Lagazuoi EXPO Dolomiti: Photography enthusiasts are invited to take part in a training day with one of the most important international curators: Denis Curti. Special Guest: Olivo Barbieri.

Appointment on September 5 with the Lagazuoi Landscape Photographic Marathon, a "photo marathon" in the unique surroundings of the Lagazuoi EXPO Dolomiti. The goal is to overcome the photographic landscape clichés associated with the Dolomites, to improve the technique and to develop an own aesthetic language in order to reproduce in an intact manner the fabulous beauty of these mountains.

Cortina d’Ampezzo, 21st July 2020_A closing in style for one of the most significant 2020 summer events in Cortina, namely the photo exhibition by Olivo Barbieri, winner of the first edition of the Lagazuoi Photo Award, a competition organized for the very first time this year by the Lagazuoi EXPO Dolomiti with the aim of renewing the iconography of the mountains.

On September 5th, on the occasion of the exhibition's finissage, there will be a workshop for all photography lovers.
The lecturer is Denis Curti, creator and coordinator of the Lagazuoi Photo Award, artistic director of the Casa dei Tre Oci in Venice and a renowned curator. He is supported by a special guest, Olivo Barbieri, who is known for his Site Specific series.

Lagazuoi Landscape Photographic Marathon is the title of this workshop dedicated to high-altitude landscape photography which takes place in a unique place: the Lagazuoi EXPO Dolomiti exhibition pole, at an altitude of 2278 metres.

The day reflects the dream of every landscape photographer: he goes into the heart of the Dolomites through one of the main entrances, the Lagazuoi cable car. There he improves his photographic gaze all day long and trains his ability to tell stories through pics. After a first theoretical part, the participants leave in search of memorable shots and receive important feedback on their work. Also, recognition is provided: the best photo will be exhibited for a year in the lobby of the Lagazuoi EXPO Dolomiti.

The workshop: a (photographic) view of the Dolomites
Meeting point is the valley station at the Falzarego Pass at 9.30 a.m..  from where the participants reach the Lagazuoi EXPO Dolomiti with the cable car in a few minutes. There, Denis Curti welcomes them and presents an analysis of the best productions of landscape and mountain photography and introduces Olivo Barbieri.

With a packed lunch - which is provided on arrival - in the backpack and a camera around the neck, the photographers walk through the mountains for two hours exploring the surrounding nature and looking for new perspectives in order to tell the Dolomites in a previously unknown way. Composition, hue, saturation, and luminance, knowledge of the technology of photography as well as stylistic criteria will be the central themes and enable the participants to take interesting pictures in an environment of overwhelming scenic beauty.

Back to the Lagazuoi EXPO Dolomiti, the participant will present their pictures to the jury made up by Denis Curti, Olivo Barbieri and Ing. Stefano Illing, creator of the exhibition complex. The best photo, which pays homage to this place dedicated to art and research, will be exhibited at the EXPO entrance for one year.

The lecturer, Denis Curti, director and founder of STILL - Photography, Show Room and Gallery - in Milan, is one of the most successful Italian curators of photo exhibitions and photo collections.
He is the artistic director of the Casa dei TRE OCI in Venice, the Festival di Fotografia di Capri and the SI FEST di Savignano sul Rubicone as well as a consultant at the Fondazione di Venezia, a foundation for the management of the photographic heritage, author of books, expert on the collectors' market and critic for newspapers and magazines.

Who is this workshop for: the workshop is aimed at professional and amateur photographers alike without restrictions.

What to bring: participants must bring a camera, a smartphone and any additional memory cards.
