The competing photographers

Walter Turcato

Walter Turcato was born in Rho (Milan) and has been taking photographs since 1976.
He actively expresses a very personal research, which is driven by a natural visual curiosity, supported by intensive observation during the recording and concreted with appropriate technology as well as finishing and narrative montage.
This photo editing is favoured by his skills in the graphic and audiovisual field.
Self-taught right from the start, he found the logical starting point in the thoughts and pictures of the Austrian photographer Ernst Haas (1921-1986), deepened and revised according to his own visual poetry.
From 1976 to 1997 he experimented with analog darkroom techniques, black and white printing, colour printing with the Cibachrome method, photo-mechanical printing, processing with photographic emulsion.
He turned to digital photography in 1998 and now relies on a Rangefinder camera, which is more suitable for reflection and meditation. He personally takes care of all post-production and printing phases.
Since 2017 he has been integrating the development of a "three-dimensionality" of photography with the project "© Photocellule" in his research. This consists of his digitally printed images directly on wooden boards, which are disassembled and put together again - partially or holistically - using various techniques on cardboard plywood panels, neutral or coloured or printed with visually interactive images.
